National Poetry Month and You

NaPoMo

It's almost over. I have attempted to write a new poem each day for NaPoMo. I have tried sonnets, a Roundel, free verse poetry about my childhood, poems from prompts, poems from conversations, poems in reaction to other poems. Each day, I emailed a completed poem -- if I had one -- to my friend JC. It's good to have an accountability partner. The key to this exercise for me was not a rigid adherence to the task; if I missed a day, so be it.

And oh yeah I missed some days. Mid-month, my spouse experienced a health crisis and spent the next week in the hospital, and all of my focus was turned to the health care system, being an advocate, and being a comfort to my partner. We are through it now, and she is expected to recover fully.

Still a few days left in NaPoMo as well.

LABC

The Leopard Aesthetics Book Club selection for April is Stay Dead by Natalie Shapero. The meeting never happened, interrupted as was everything else by the health issues described above. It's a solid poetry collection and I'm looking forward to the conversation we are going to have about it next month.

Other Books of Note

A debut collection from Millie Tullis called These Saints are Stones. I have my copy, but have not had a chance to read it yet. I met Millie last year and heard her read at the Soda City Poetry Festival.
